United Way of Tuscarawas County

United Way of Tuscarawas County‘s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community to advance the common good. We do this by supporting programs from our partner organizations and implementing programs of our own, including the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and the 2-1-1 Crisis Line. These programs help to support and connect people in need with the resources available in their community.

Our partner agencies include AccessTusc, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Harcatus Community Action Organization, Mobile Meals of Dover-New Philadelphia, Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center, OhioGuidestone, Salvation Army, Society for Equal Access, T4C, Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, Tuscarawas County YMCA, and TUFF Bags. The United Way of Tuscarawas County and our partner agencies primarily support low-income individuals and families, though some of our programming (like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library) is available regardless of socioeconomic status.

Although we’re a part of a global network, the United Way of Tuscarawas County is independently run by a board and two full-time employees. All of the money collected through our annual campaign stays in Tuscarawas County through our programs and partner agencies. Beyond our annual support of our partner agencies, community impact funds are available to non-partner agencies. We award small grants to schools and other non-profit organizations on a monthly basis.

Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program has grown each year, and this year we helped to prepare the state and federal taxes of 1,055 households. This program not only helps people maximize their federal and state tax refunds, but also saves them money by offering tax preparation services for free. Our VITA clients are always so grateful for the service, and we’re happy to provide it!

If you’re interested in starting a workplace campaign for your business, please get in touch! Workplace campaigns allow us to collect donations from employees through payroll deduction each pay period. These workplace campaigns help to sustain our organization throughout the year, and help to support the many partner agencies and programs we run. We are also always looking for campaign solicitors to help us reach out to businesses and share details about our mission to encourage annual giving.
